QTD 2020

Conference on Quantum ThermoDynamics

Online, 19-23 Oct 2020

In recent years we are witnessing a constantly growing interest in understanding thermodynamic phenomena at the quantum scale. Novel fundamental questions arise, such as: how do the laws of thermodynamics emerge in this regime? How are thermodynamic processes affected by the presence of quantum coherences and entanglement? Quantum thermodynamics is also relevant for the design of quantum information technologies and for our understanding of many-body quantum systems.
All these and related questions will be discussed at QTD 2020, the annual conference on quantum thermodynamics.

IMPORTANT INFO

This year, due the evolving COVID-19 situation, the Conference will be held online and the sessions are open to all attendees.

About Us

A few words about QTD 2020

QTD 2020 is the annual conference on quantum thermodynamics. The main goal of the conference is to discuss the recent advances on quantum thermodynamics, the field that studies thermodynamic processes at the quantum scale. The first edition of the conference was held in Berlin in 2013 and was followed by events in Mallorca, Porquerolles, Erice, Oxford, Santa Barbara and Espoo.

A few words about ICFO

ICFO-The Institute of Photonic Sciences was founded in 2002 by the Government of Catalonia and the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), both of which are members of its board of trustees along with the Cellex and Mir-Puig Foundations, philanthropic entities that have played a critical role in the advancement of the institute since 2007. Located in the Mediterranean Technology Park in the metropolitan area of Barcelona, the institute currently hosts 400 people, organized in 26 research groups in 60 state-of-the-art research laboratories. Research lines encompass diverse areas in which photonics plays a decisive role, with an emphasis on basic and applied themes relevant to medicine and biology, advanced imaging techniques, information technologies, a range of environmental sensors, tunable and ultra-fast lasers, quantum science, photovoltaics and the properties and applications of nano-materials such as graphene, among others.

PROGRAM

For this QTD 2020 Online we have prepared different sessions during all week.  See below the details of the PROGRAM.

Click to find more information of the speakers and the links to JOIN IN the Zoom webinars. You can pre-register and add the information to your Calendar.

WELCOME: Monday 19 at 12:45 CEST, that is 15′ before the first seminar starts. We’d like to see you there! 🙂

INVITED TALKS: You will find a Zoom link to join in each individual talk. The sessions will last 45 minutes in total (30′ talk + 15′ Q&A)

We will have 15-minute break between the invited talks.

CONTRIBUTED TALKS: We have prepared 4 Topics: TRANSPORT, ENGINES, OPEN Q SYSTEMS and Q INFORMATION. Each topic consists in 8 talks of 25 minutes in total (15′ talk + 10′ Q&A). There’s a single Zoom link to join in for each Topic.

We will have 5-minute break between the contributed talks.

POSTER SESSION: The QTD Poster Session is already public and it will be available to visit during all the conference. http://s.ic.fo/QTD_PosterSession

Wednesday 21st 12:00-16:00 (CEST) all the poster presenters will be online and available to have chat with you. We’d like to encourage you to contribute with your questions and comments!

QUO VADIS Q THERMO? Discussion session on open problems in the field. Feel free to contribute before the meeting and propose topics for discussion. We count on your participation to make a lively and fruitful event!

IMPORTANT! Visit the Speakers Blog Roll to know more about the talks. Interact with the speakers and leave your questions and comments there!
