Catalytic transformations using small quantum systems: explicit protocols and applications to cooling
Catalysts in small quantum systems can enable processes that are otherwise impossible. While catalytic operations have been explored, for example in resource theory, to the best of our knowledge only one specific protocol that guarantees the restoration of the catalyst has been proposed. In this work we show how to systematically construct catalytic protocols that boost cooling performance. We provide conditions for catalytic transformations that cannot be written as a unital map on the system, which is composed of the cold and hot baths in the case of cooling. In addition, these results apply to baths of arbitrary size, including thermal systems as small as a qubit.
Hi all, this is the work I will be speaking about in my talk 🙂
